I Am Learning How To Type Faster In 30 Days

typing test score

Today, I’m finally going to start learning how to type FAST! I think, currently, I am a decent typist, but I know I can push this skill further. Right now, I only use six fingers to type instead of all ten. Imagine what I could do if I used all of them?

WHY DO I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO TYPE FAST BEFORE EVERYTHING ELSE?

The reason is simple. Typing is the foundation of everything I do. Every part of my life—the brainstorming, the writing, even my moments of self-reflection—boils down to me at a keyboard, putting my thoughts into words.

I write for money, yes. But more importantly, I write for me. I write to make peace with myself, to express the things I can’t say out loud. I write when I’m angry, when I’m sad, when I’m lost, I write to let out the tears, and when I’m finding my way back.

On an average day, I spend at least six hours just typing. That’s not even counting the thinking part, just the pure, uninterrupted flow of my fingers on the keys. Six hours a day.

If I could improve my speed, even by just a little bit, I could free up so much time for other things. And that’s what this is all about—maximizing my time, creating space for the new and exciting things I want to explore.

So, what’s my current typing speed?

Here it is, plain and simple: I clock in at an average of 58.67 words per minute (WPM). The average person types around 38 to 40 WPM, so technically, I’m 46% faster than most people.

My Target?

80 WPM in 30 days. Sounds ambitious, but I know I can do it. I’ve set milestones—60 WPM, 65 WPM, 70 WPM, 75 WPM, and finally, 80 WPM.

Here’s how I’m going to do it:

  1. Daily Practice:
    • I’ll start each day with a warm-up: two quick typing tests to get my fingers moving.
    • After that, I’ll do three REAL typing tests. No shortcuts, no excuses. Just raw speed and accuracy.
  2. Tracking My Progress:
    • I’ll record my WPM and accuracy after each session.
    • I’ll update the main skill page i.e. this page every day with my progress.
    • I’ll journal my experience—how it feels, what’s improving, what’s frustrating—and share those thoughts online.
  3. Weekly Review:
    • At the end of each week, I’ll compare where I started to where I am now.
    • I’ll look at my speed, my accuracy, and set new challenges for the week ahead.
  4. Weekly Recap:
    • I’ll post a summary of my progress—what went well, what didn’t, and how I’m adjusting my strategy.

So yeah, this is it. DAY 01 is completed and you can see the journal entry here.

I’ll see you tomorrow!
